This movie is a remake of the Japanese film “Hachiko Monogatari.” The film is based on the true story of Hachiko, an Akita dog who is remembered in Japan for his incredible loyalty to his master. Hachi waits faithfully at the train station for his owner day after day, even after his owner has died and can not come back to meet him. He became famous for his loyalty and was adored by many people. It is easy for adults and kids alike to connect with the characters and become completely engrossed in this heart-warming film. I love to coordinate books with movies in my classroom. I can’t wait to accompany this movie with a read-aloud book based also based on the original Hachiko story. There are some very good life lessons that can be taught through this story about kindness, relationships, loyalty, and love.
