Teaching Islam as an Asian Religion
Author | |
Abstract |
The article discusses the role that Islam has played as a cultural and spiritual force in Central and Southeast Asia, and how the scholarly focus on Islam as purely an Arabic religion is erroneous. Citing certain examples, such as Sufi leaders, and bringing up how other scholars define Asia religious systems, the author makes the argument based in the "universal principles" of Islam, and the way the religion has been adapted in different cultural communities.
