Abstract |
Ages 7 and Up. This story, told from the Japanese point of view, chronicles the adventures of Alves, an exchange student from Brazil. We share his discoveries as he tours Japan’s northern island, Hokkaido, learning about daily life by working in the fields, going to village festivals, participating in a sumo wrestling tournament and attending a local school. This book, with its vivid and striking imagery, is able to tell a tale of what it is like to be a foreigner in an interesting and alien land full of surprises and new things to learn.
