Dated but still useful

This is still a useful book for background on older Japanese directors, although its now quite dated. Bock provides the basics on a host of Japanese directors from the golden age in the 50s up to Shinoda, but given that the book was published in the 80s, modern directors are not included. Worthwhile as a reference, but newer books may have more value.
