Abstract
The Banana Child is the story of a young boy who was born from a carefully cultivated banana by his old adoptive father. When the father becomes weak and bent over, the boy goes out on a search to find a cure for his father’s hunched back. Finding a hill with a fair fairy maiden atop it, the boy asks the maiden if there are any treasures around that can cure illness. The maiden points him to three treasures, but he uses each in turn for a good deed, having nothing left for his father. In the end, the maiden appears at their home in the form of a peacock, transforming so as to help the old man and ease him of his pain. A short and simple story with nice illustrations, the story is great as a tale of morality. Ages 5 and Up.
