Chinese Artistic Kites

Author
Abstract
This charmingly written and beautifully illustrated little book introduces kites made since the mid-19th century by the Ha family of Beijing. Following a brief but interesting introduction to the history of kites (they originated in China and were probably first used for spying!), Ha family kites are discussed in detail. Illustrations of stunning examples of eight kite types are followed by diagrams and discussions of kite construction; the authors also add some advice and illustrations on kite flying. Although it is doubtful that a beginner could pick up this book and build a Ha kite, it should provide many hours of enjoyment for expert and novice alike. Highly recommended for public libraries.
